Welcome to Sugar Hill's home learning area!
We are thinking of all the children and families at the school and are eager to help in any way we can.
We hope you find this useful in this troubled time, and it helps you keep your child's mind active and consolidates the learning they've recently been doing at school. It is not a list of things children must do, but is a range of resources for you to select from and use.
If your child is worried about Coronavirus, scroll to the bottom of this page where we have included some useful resources for you and your child.

Aycliffe Angel to celebrate her 106th Birthday on 21st June 2020
Can you help by making her a card?
Renee Glover, a former Aycliffe Angel will be celebrating her 106th birthday on Sunday 21st June. The family have put out an appeal via the home where Renee lives, for 106 birthday cards from well wishers to commemorate this fantastic milestone.
Renee worked at the Royal Ordnance Factory as an inspector during the war years making bombs and ammunition for the front line, helping the war efforts like so many other women, while the men were away.
Please help make this a great birthday for Renee and one for her family to remember, please drop a card in the collection bin at Tesco, before Friday 19th June.
Take a look at our brand new page where we will be adding videos from some of our teachers, showing activities you can do at home.
We have now added 'Virtual Classrooms' for each year group which will be regularly updated with new activities and websites to access.
Please use the links in the menu to the left to access these.
There are many brilliant learning websites offering free access at this time to ensure children can continue with some form of learning at home. See our 'Great Websites' page for links to some of the best.
As a school we also have a subscription to 'Education City' which provides lots of interactive activities for all ages and all areas of the curriculum. All children have been issued with a login to access these resources.
All children from Year 2 - Year 6 will also have a login to 'Times Table Rock Stars'.
Wow! - look at this amazing video sent in by Mia and Fletcher's mum. A huge thank you to all of you. Its so lovely to see all of your smiling faces! The staff at Sugar Hill miss you all very much.

What children in school have been doing
Thank you so much to everyone who sent in their pictures for the Rainbow Challenge. You all look amazing!
One of the most important forms of home learning is reading. We would like all children to read for at least 20 minutes (to you or to themselves if they are older). Ask them questions about what they've read (italics for more challenging questions):
What happened? (Can you summarise in four sentences? First... Next... Then... Finally...)
Were there any words you didn't know/ you need to clarify? (Encourage children to re-read the sentence with the word in it to try to understand if from the context themselves before telling them what the word means - they can also look at pictures to help with what it means, and think of words they do know that are similar to it).
What characters were there? What were they like? (How do you know this?)
What powerful word/ phrases did the author use? What's the effect of this on the reader?
What's one sentence that stood out to you? What makes it so powerful?
What do you predict will happen next? What clues in the book make you think this will happen?
