Newsletter 15th October 2021

18 October 2021 (by Vicky)

Dear Parents/carers,

Friday again! I’m sure the weeks get quicker.

Another really busy week for the children. The new Projects are progressing well and the children are really excited by the work they are doing.

I hope you have all received your Global Curriculum Leaflets explaining what we are doing. There will be chance for you to see this when you are in school for parent/carer meetings and during Showcase week in December.

Information about Parent/carer meetings will be coming out next week, so please watch for this letter arriving. These will be face to face in school, which means you will also get to see what has been going on in school.

As you will know we started the year with all of the children doing art work based on the book “It’s Your World Now”. Year 6 have been writing to the author and had an email reply…

“Wow, thank you so much for getting in touch about the amazing things you and the children at your school have been getting up to! This was a really delightful email for me to get. I'm so pleased to hear that you connected with some of the ideas in 'It's Your World Now!'  - it was a very personal story that I wrote for my daughter, and to hear that it means something to you and your students is really amazing. It has been a very strange time for Primary schools (and everyone really) so I'm glad to hear that my work has in some way helped the children of Sugar Hill transition back into classroom life. I'm currently working on the finishing touches to my third book, so this is exactly the kind of positive feedback I need to remind me why it's worth all the late nights!

I would love to pay your school a visit at some stage, although I have to say that being based over here in Northern Ireland I don't often visit the north of England. In lieu of a real-life appearance I will endeavour to write back to the kids who have taken the time to write me those lovely, inspiring letters!

Thanks so much again, you really have made my day!”

We then sent him the pictures of our displays which are on our Instagram page. Please check this out.

Year 6 were thrilled and are organising a ZOOM meeting with him.

Reminders

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

As mentioned last week “Squid Game” is starting to rear its head. The show, on Netflix, is very violent and not at all suitable for primary aged children.

Squid Game is in fact rated TV-MA, meaning it's not suitable for children under 17.

Please note for future reference, should merchandise for this be available, IT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN SCHOOL.

Coats

Please ensure the children all have their coats at school, as they are out daily.

Payments for Pantomime

This is on Parent Pay as soon as possible to allow parents/carers to spread the cost. If you any issues with Parent Pay please contact Mrs Blacklock in the office.

Late pupils/dropping off items

Please continue to ring the main office if you are going to be late or have anything to drop off at the office during the day. We have noticed that parents are ‘dropping in’ without ringing in advance. The phones are on from 8.30am each morning until 4.30pm after school, Monday to Thursday and 4pmeach Friday.
