Newsletter - Friday 22nd October 2021

2 November 2021 (by Vicky)

Dear Parents/carers,

I cannot believe 8 weeks have gone by since the start of term in September, despite the mornings and evenings becoming darker and the Autumn weather we have had this week.

However, 8 weeks have gone and we are here at half term.

I know we are all ready for it, especially the children. They have been working so hard this half term, having settled back into routines so well. Please look at the website to see what has been going on.

I want to start with a huge thank you for your support since the start of term, it really means a lot to all of the staff.

Although we are mostly back to normal, there are still systems and restrictions in place and I thank you for continuing to follow these.

The number of COVID cases are rising again and I am watching this with interest. Everything is crossed that we do not go backwards. Be careful to watch for headaches and sickness as symptoms.

Thank you also to those who have completed the survey sent on Monday. It is so important that we get your views and where there are issues or problems that we know about them and they can be addressed very quickly.

As I always say we can not sort out a problem if we do not know the problem exists.

If you have not already done so please complete the survey by the end of today.

I mentioned the website earlier in the newsletter. Please visit to find out more information about our curriculum and about Voice 21.

Sugar Hill has become a VOICE 21 school this year. Oracy, the ability to be able to speak well and articulate what you want to say is a vital skill for the future. This will be a huge part of what we are doing at school over the next two years. The website contains information and a very short video explaining a little more about the project.

If you want to know more please do not hesitate to contact school.

Mini SMT

On Wednesday this week Mrs Legge and I interviewed Y6 children to appoint a Head boy and girl, Deputy Head boy and girl and two Assistant Head boys and girls.

Many Y6 children applied, were then shortlisted and interviewed, as in a real job application.

All of Y6 children who applied did a fantastic job. Thank you to them all.

Results were:

Head Boy- Daniel Ketley, Head Girl- Sophie Bell

Deputy Head Boy- Harry Cheetham, Deputy Head Girl- Ella-Mae Hughes

Assistant Head boys and girls - Oliver Galloway, Trent Telford, Indigo Humble and Lila Hancock

Well done to all of them on excellent interviews.

These children will meet with the real SMT, meet and greet visitors and help with and attend school events.

Extra Bank Holiday for the Queen

As you may have heard there is to be an extra Bank Holiday in 2022 to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This day falls in our half term so we have been allocated an extra day to take at another time. We have decided to take it at the end of the Christmas Holiday on the 5th January so we will return to school on Thursday 6th January 2022

Reminders

Social media aware

Please be aware of what your children are doing on phones and other IT devices during the half term, especially with the new crazes including Squid Games. It is vital that e Safety is the responsibility of us all.

Standards

Please remember that nail varnish and large hair accessories/bows and hair bands, are not allowed in school, including Nursery.

On PE days children must wear their PE t-shirt not football shirts. It is not a non-uniform day.

Trainers are only allowed on these days and not on any other day.

Thank you for your support in this and the very vast majority of parents/carers who already follow these rules.

Parent Meetings- Week beginning 8th November
